Lillie Mae Rische

My job has really taken a bite out of my drawing time lately, but I’m still able to sit down and do some sketching on Sunday evenings. I drew a picture of the Noid, a character from the old Domino’s Pizza commercials, last Sunday. This time, I drew Lillie Mae Rische, Jack White’s fiddle player. I bought his new CD last week while I was buying groceries and I’ve been listening to it over and over again. One of my favorite songs is Temporary Ground, where Lillie Mae sings and plays the fiddle. They performed this song on the Conan O’Brien show recently. It was brilliant. I liked their old-fashioned microphones and their matching silver instruments. I hope you all have a nice week.

  1. Another great piece of art, Matthew. Like the previous one, I like the shading in this one too. A bit different from your other drawings as this one includes half the person. And a fiddle. There’s an intensity about her your drawing, and it seems like she has that intense look in real life too. Well done. You have a good week too 🙂

      • It was absolutely freezing here today, Matt. Heavy rain and gusty winds, even the main river in the city burst its banks. Hope it’s not too hot over where you are. I don’t mind blazing hot weather right now. Looking forward to more drawings from you, as per usual 🙂

      • I’d be happy to trade with you. 🙂 I love cold weather for some strange reason.

I was thinking about something last night at work. Do you have Chinese restaurants in Australia? There are a lot of them around here. I passed one yesterday that I never knew about. It’s about thirty minutes from my apartment. I think I’ll go and eat there next weekend. I like Chinese restaurants, but I’ve always assumed that the food in Chinese restaurants is nothing like actual food in China. I was just wondering. You may have blogged about it before and I just didn’t know.

      • Today it was so windy you could hear the wind howling all day long at my work. Not to mention freezing too 🙂

In Australia there are tons of Asian restaurants everywhere, though as you make your way into the suburbs and country it’s very hard to find them. Never knew there were Chinese restaurants in your town (Georgia???). I think I’ve wrote something about Chinese food not being Asian food in Western countries…

…here: http://mabelkwong.com/2013/03/14/asian-food-in-australia-not-authentic-but-still-delicious/ It was a long time ago, look at my writing then, lol 🙂

      • That’s right. 🙂 I live in the state of Georgia. I live very close to the Alabama state line. Yesterday, I drove over there just to look around. I don’t go there very much. I ate at a little diner called The Waffle King. On the way back home, when I was passing through a town called Cedar Bluff, I noticed a Chinese restaurant there. It’s just twenty or thirty minutes from where I live. I’m planning to try it soon. When I go, I’ll let you know what it’s like. 🙂

        I like your post!

      • That diner sounds like they serve really yummy waffles. We do have waffles here in Melbourne but they don’t seem to be too popular overall. Definitely let me know when you try the Chinese restaurant, I’m sure you’ll have something interesting to say 🙂

  2. Great sketch, and great song! I haven’t listened to Jack White much, but now that I know he’s got such a good fiddle player in his band, I’ll be listening more.
